"הפואטיקה של הבית" עוסק בבית ובבית הלאומי, שני רעיונות ברורים ונוכחים בחייו של כל אדם בעולם בימינו. אלא שבדיקת המונחים לעומק מערערת מיד על קביעה זו. המרחב שבו חי האדם בישראל של שנות ה2000 מעלה תהיות רבות לגבי מושגים אלה ומוכיח כי אלה מרחבים מעורפלים ומעורערים. כרמל גוטליב קמחי חוקרת בספר שלהלן ארבעה סרטים ישראליים בז'אנר האוטוביוגרפי דוקומנטארי הנבדקים לאור התבוננות בבית ובבית הלאומי. בספר נידונות שאלות יסוד התעוררות לנוכח החיים במדינת ישראל ויש בו התייחסות לסוגיות בסיסיות של היות יהודי בישראל ובעולם. מן המחקר עולה כי מגדר הוא היבט משמעותי ביותר בכינונו של בית, וההבדלים בין המינים מייצרים יחסי כוחות בין גברים לנשים, המשפיעים על תפיסת הבית, הבית הלאומי והסגנון האמנותי של כל יוצר/ת.

הספר פונה לכל אדם ששאלת הבית וייצוגו מעסיקים אותו כדיון קולנועי, אמנותי ופילוסופי ומתבסס על מחקר לתואר מוסמך שנעשה באוניברסיטת תל אביב, בפקולטה לאמנויות.

About the poetics of Home- the Representation of Home and Nation in Israeli Autobiographical Documentary Films.

The book examines the perceptions of Home and Nation in four Israeli autobiographical :documentary films

1. Diary (chapters 1,2), David Perlov, 1988.

2. 66 Was a Good Year For Tourism, Amit Goren, 1992.

3. For My Children, Michal Aviad, 2002.

4. The Skies are Close in Homesh, Menora Hazani, 2003.

Through the examination of these individual films the book reveals the complex relations between the perception of home and Nation in these four films. The four films displayed express, each in their particular manner, the binding of the private and the public realms. The autobiographical documentary created by each director enables him or her to create a territorial identity, which may be used as a base to look out from onto the society at large, and state a claim regarding the broader issues of Nation.

Containing both meanings of home and house in Hebrew, the term BAIT, is discussed in this dissertation, on the one hand, as a way of addressing the intimacy, warmth and protection which the home provides, but also in relation to the structure and form that dictate the appearance and feel of the home, and thus, the way it's inhabitant's relate to it. In broader terms, the research strives to translate these autobiographical films as Space that represents Place. The autobiographical documentary is then a mold that the directoruses in which to cast his or her perception of Self and Place in the Israeli society.
